Pierre Terblanche, the motorcycle design stalwart has reportedly hung up his boots as the director of design at one of world’s oldest motorcycle companies, Royal Enfield.
Terblanche had joined Royal Enfield in November 2014 and was at the helm of all the designing of the products in the company’s portfolio. He was located at Royal Enfield’s research centre in London.
Royal Enfield, which is a part of the Eicher Motor group, is based out of Chennai in south India and is on a roll in the country with the performance of its two-wheeler models and overall motorcycle business. This development comes as a bit of a surprise during otherwise times of jubilation for the company.
The reasons for Terblanche’s resignation are unknown as of now. The celebrated designer is of 60 years of age and hails from South Africa. He holds a master in Transport Design from the prestigious Royal College of Arts in London.
Terblanche had started his career as a designer in Volkswagen, where he worked at its Advanced Design Studio in Dusseldorf in Germany. He soon shifted his focus and entered the world of motorcycle design as that was his major interest area and intrigued him much.
In his motorcycle designing career, Pierre Terblanche has worked with legends like Massimo Tamburini, who is known to be the backbone at MV Agusta motorcycles, the Italian company which has produced some of world’s most iconic marvels on two wheels. Apart from MV Agusta products, Terblanche has designed motorcycles like the Ducati Multistrada, Ducati HyperMotard, X132Helicat Speedster and has the honor of designing these jewels to his kitty.
Terblanche has worked with various iconic manufacturers like Moto Guzzi, Norton, Cagiva, Ducati and U.S-based Confederate Motorcycles as major motorcycle companies. He then went on to join Royal Enfield with a enormous amount of experience up his sleeves.
