A chartered accountant in Haryana was arrested by the CBI for
allegedly accepting a bribe of sixty thousand rupees as the first
installment of the two lakh rupee bribe demanded.
A case was registered under section 8 of PC Act, 1988 against the chartered accountant on the allegation of demanding a bribe of Rs. 2,00,000 from the complainant.
THE COMPLAINT
The complainant, who runs a business of mobile handsets and accessories, has alleged that Income Tax Officer, Ward No. 2(4), Faridabad (Haryana) had issued a notice to him regarding assessment of his income. After receiving the notice, the complainant discussed the matter with the CA who informed him that he has also received a copy of the same notice and has discussed the matter with ITO.
The complainant has further alleged that a meeting was also held in the office of ITO along with the CA and during this discussion, the complainant came to know that the CA was demanding a bribe of two lakh rupees on behalf of the said ITO for settling the issue. On the request of the complainant, the CA reduced the bribe amount to 1.5 lakh rupees and agreed to accept Rs. 60,000 as the first installment.
CBI TRAP
The CBI laid a trap at Faridabad wherein the chartered accountant was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 60,000. Searches were conducted at the official premises of the CA, which led to the recovery of the relevant documents.
The accused has been arrested and will be produced today in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Panchkula (Haryana).
