PV Sindhu registers a berth in the final of Rio 2016 Olympics after beating Japan's Okuhara.
PV Sindhu registered a place in the final of Rio 2016 Olympics after
she beat her opponent Okuhara. Sindhu has now confirmed an Olympic medal
after grabbing a win in this encounter. The young Indian shuttler has
now confirmed a silver medal in the prestigious tournament. She won the
first game 21-19 in a hard fought battle and then demolished Nozomi
Okuhara of Japan 21-10 in the second set. By doing so, Sindhu becomes
the first ever Indian shuttler to reach final of a badminton event in
Olympics. Sindhu to clash with Carolina Marin of Spain in the gold medal
match on Friday. With her semifinal win, Sindhu also assures India its
second Rio Olympic medal on Friday.
Sindhu made her into the semis by defeating world number two Wang Yihan of China in the badminton women’s singles quarter-finals. Indian shuttler won the match in straight sets (22-20, 21-19) dominating her opponent with attacking play.
