On the eve of the inauguration of Haryana’s year-long golden jubilee celebrations at Gurugram on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it was time to look back at the state's achievements.
Modi lauded Haryana's contribution on a national level, saying many from the state have sacrificed their lives for the nation by serving in the armed forces.
It is a common belief that Haryana only has farmers, but exemplary success of businessmen from the state tells a different story, he added.
Speaking on the matter of female infanticide, he said a distinguished state like this must not have such cases, adding that Haryana has taken steps to fight against this evil.
He went on to glorify daughters of Haryana, saying girls from Haryana have India proud at several occasions.
Modi also honoured Rio Paralympics medallist Deepa Malik at Haryana Swarna Jayanti programme.
"Let every citizen of Haryana pledge to protect the girl child," he said.
The process of development should begin in the villages, which will expedite overall transformation of the state, the PM opined.
