The
Enforcement Directorate on Friday booked former Haryana CM Bhupinder
Singh Hooda and officials of Associated Journals Limited for alleged
money laundering.
Hooda had re-allotted a plot to Congress-linked Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which is the owner of National Herald, in Panchkula Sector 6 during his regime, despite being informed by the authorities that a land once cancelled cannot be re allotted.
Haryana government incurred a loss of 62 lakhs as the former CM allotted the land at the price of 1982. AJL had violated the terms and conditions of the land allotted to them in 1982 by not constructing the building in the given period of time. AJL applications were rejected thrice before Hooda took over as the chief minister.
On May 5, the vigilance bureau had registered a case of cheating, breach of trust and corruption against Hooda, who was also the HUDA chairman in his capacity as the state's chief minister. Officials of HUDA and office-bearers of AJL, the promoters of 'The National Herald' newspaper were also charged with illegal re-allotment of the plot to the AJL in 2005.
